I was so excited when I booked my ticket for a winter escape from Washington DC. We flew to Fort Lauderdale from where we rented a car and hit the famous US Route 1 South to the Southernmost Point of the continental USA.
This 4 hour long scenic route meanders along the beautiful Caribbean islands the Keys. Along the road we can see beaches, tiki bars (you have to try these if you didn't before), restaurants and impressive holiday mansions.
After a fun a scenic drive we arrived to Key West. The first think I noticed and was really fun that the entire island is full of free range chicken. These little guys came with the Cuban immigrants in the previous centuries. After farming and wasn't as attractive and the popular cock-fight became illegal in the United States they let the chicken free. Now they are protected and wherever you go along the island you can meet them.
Some touristy things to do:
- the beaches are not as impressive but if you are here during the winter when the other parts of the US is under snow it can be really beautiful
- visit the Hemingway house - definitely worth to join a tour because you can hear cool stories about his life
- bars, bars, bars......
- seafood :)
Its Tuesday morning. I have plenty of time to add another blog post because I'm waiting at the DMV to renew my DL.
The idea of the lookup series came last fall during Thanksgiving. I was visiting a good friend in Pittsburgh. Being several times in Steelers Town I already saw the landmarks. I was wondering around downtown and try to capture something which I didn't pay attention before. Being a beautiful morning I looked up on the sky and which was covered with puffy clouds and it was reflected by the all glass buildings and I knew that I have to capture this beauty. Since then if I am indoors or outdoor I always look up too see this perspective which is often forgotten by everyday traveler or photographer. Looking up or looking down, around, behind can make the difference between a good photo and a great photo. If we want to make better photos or to stand out from the crowd we have to make these small efforts to take different photos. :)
Photos taken during my travels in the US and abroad. Enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed being at the locations
